Visitors to the University of Melbourne’s Veterinary Hospital

Students

The Veterinary Hospital holds an Open Day in March each year for school students and the community to attend. Tours of the Faculty and Hospital are not available at other times of the year.

Veterinary Students from Institutions with Exchange Agreements

The University of Melbourne (UoM) has formal exchange agreements for veterinary students from the University of California Davis, University of Copenhagen and L’Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Toulouse. Students from these institutions wishing to undertake an exchange for credit in their program of study should initially contact their home institution’s foreign exchange coordinator.

Other Veterinary Students: Short Term Clinical Placements in the Veterinary Hospital

The Veterinary Hospital accepts students from other institutions who are in their final year of study for short term clinical placements, when capacity allows.

These placements are available for up to three weeks' duration in the Veterinary Hospital.

Accommodation may possibly be available in our student residence, Kendall Hall.  Alternatively, visiting students may contact the Veterinary Student’s Society of Victoria for assistance with local residency requirements.

Students wishing to make arrangements for such placements should contact the Student Services Co-ordinator.

Other Veterinary Students: Long Term Placements in the Veterinary Hospital

The Veterinary Hospital occasionally accepts students who are undertaking clinical practice rotations within their final year of study for periods of study longer than four weeks.

Students wishing to complete a full semester of clinical placements enrol in the subject Veterinary Clinical Skills (VCS). Veterinary Clinical Skills (VCS) is a subject which contains 4 x 3 week clinical rotations. Students interested in such a placement should apply to enrol as a study abroad student via the University’s Global Mobility Office.

Students may select from the clinical rotations available:

International students should be aware that there are visa requirements (Global Mobility Office) for study in Australia.

Fees are charged for long term study abroad placements.

Foreign Veterinary Graduates

Graduates who wish to obtain tuition in clinical skills, in preparation for ECFVG may apply to enrol in the subject Veterinary Clinical Skills (VCS) as a community access program.

Applicants interested in enrolling in Veterinary Clinical Skills (VCS) should contact the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

Visiting Clinicians from other Colleges of Veterinary Medicine

The Veterinary Hospital welcomes short-term visitors from international veterinary schools.

Colleagues wishing to spend time at the Veterinary Hospital should initially contact the appropriate colleague, who is in the required discipline of their interest.

Internships and Residencies
