Accreditation
Our veterinary program is accredited by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc., and internationally by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK). Accreditation is important as graduation from an accredited veterinary school is required by registration bodies before new graduates can be issued a licence to practise as a veterinarian.
Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc
The Melbourne School of Veterinary Science is recognised by the Australian Veterinary Boards Council Inc, through the Veterinary Schools Accreditation Advisory Committee (VSAAC), making veterinary science graduates eligible for registration with the Veterinary Surgeons' Board in each state and territory in Australia, and in New Zealand.

In 2006 the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) granted the Melbourne School of Veterinary Science full accreditation status, for a period of seven years. The Melbourne School of Veterinary Science joins an elite group of veterinary schools outside of North America which have achieved this status, and we are only one of three veterinary schools to achieve this standard in Australasia.
Accreditation from the AVMA means that the University of Melbourne veterinary science degree is recognised in the United States or Canada, making our graduates eligible to sit the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination – a prerequisite for all veterinarians who seek to practise in North America.
