University Veterinary School Roll of Honour

Finney, William Henry B, LVSc 1914, BVSc 1922

W. H. B. FINNEY, B.V.Sc.

It was with deep regret that members learned of the death, on March 12, of Colonel W. H. B. Finney, a former member of the Queensland Division.

After attending the Dookie Agricultural College he proceeded to the Veterinary School, University of Melbourne and in 1914 obtained his Licentiate and later his Bachelor's Degree.  After war service he practised at Geelong and in 1921 was appointed Veterinary Officer on the staff of the Department of Commerce and Agriculture.  With the exception of temporary periods in other States and a term in London from 1945 to 1947 he was stationed in Queensland till his retirement in 1953.  Colonel Finney was very active in veterinary affairs in Queensland.  It is recorded that he attended the November meeting of the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons' Association in 1922.  The Association had been formed two years earlier and lapsed in 1924.

When the Veterinary Association of Queensland was formed in 1928 he was elected President in that year and again in 1929.  He became President again in 1933 and continued in that office until the Annual General Meeting in 1938.  In these early years of the Division's history he did much to keep the small band of members together, meetings frequently being held at his home.
