McLennan, George Cameron, LVSc 1909, BVSc 1914

Captain George Cameron McLennan, Army Veterinary Corps ( commencement date unknown - 15 April, 1918) was listed as a member of the Australian Veterinary Association in 1926, living in Kyabram, Victoria, and in 1935-1938 as a veterinary pathologist in the South Australian Department of Agriculture. In 1938 he joined the Meat Export Branch of the Department of Commerce, Melbourne, as a Commonwealth Veterinary Officer. He took leave of absence to work with Dr. L.B. Bull in the Government Laboratory of Pathology and Bacteriology in Adelaide. As a result he published in the Australian Veterinary Journal in April 1935 a notable scientific article which was the first account in Australia of neurolymphomatosis gallinarum (Marek’s disease). After that, he returned to the Department of Commerce. When he retired, he pioneered the export of mutton and live sheep to the Persian Gulf states. He was President of the AVA, Victorian Division in 1954-55. For many years, his sister was a botanist in the Botany School, University of Melbourne.
