Mr Elwes Wood died suddenly at his home in Elsternwick, Victoria at the age of 73 years. He was the eldest son of Mr F.G. Wood, a former major of Caulfield, and a nephew of Messrs. S.O. and E.N. Wood who were at one time well known veterinary practitioners in Victoria.
Mr Wood graduated L.V.Sc from the Melbourne Veterinary School in 1912 and practised as an assistant to his two uncles. He left Colac to join the Department of Commerce and Agriculture as a veterinary officer, and retired from this position in 1954 at the age of 65 years. On his retirement he commenced practice at Elsternwick, where he was actively engaged up to the time of his death. Mr Wood owned and raced many well known trotting and jumping horses, and he was a very keen fisherman.
He is survived by his wife and two sons - Major F.B. Wood, M.B.E., R.A.S.C, and Mr M. Wood of the ANZ Bank.
