The Belle Bruce Reid Roll of Honour

Lloyd-Webb, Lis medal

Lis was the first woman to fill the role of Chief Veterinary Officer in Tasmanian primary industry and had occupied the position only for a little over a year when she died.  She was born in Belgium as the eldest of six children.  Her career was marked by achievement.  After graduating in Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in 1976, she acquired a postgraduate certificate in public sector management and was appointed a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in epidemiology.  She was a member of the DPIF team, which won the Tasmanian Enterprise Workshop in 1993, and before her death was a director of the Tasmanian Entrepreneurial Centre which runs the Enterprise Workshop.

Her veterinary career covered both private and government fields, starting a little more than 20 years ago in the piggery at the Cressy Research Station.  She had an interest in the beef breeding and fattening enterprise at Carrick and was involved with the TFGA and the Australian-Pacific Extension Network.  Her Department work led her to a range of senior appointments including Acting Manager of the Animal Health Management Branch, Acting Manager of the Land and Water Resource Management branch and, finally, as Chief Veterinary Officer for the State.  She was appointed to this position in March last year.  During her short time in the position Lis demonstrated professionalism and set herself high standards of performance.
