Applications are invited for the position of Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, The University of Melbourne
The Dean provides exceptional leadership to the Faculty of Veterinary Science in its teaching activities, research endeavours and in the management of its corporate, business and administrative responsibilities.
The Faculty of Veterinary Science provides a four-year undergraduate BVSc program for students who have completed at least one pre-veterinary year in basic sciences at tertiary level.
The Faculty maintains a veterinary teaching clinic and hospital facility at its Werribee campus for companion animals and horses, and a Rural Veterinary Unit at Maffra for access to cattle.
The Faculty has an expanding graduate program linked to its high quality research across a spectrum of veterinary and biotechnology-related areas at its Parkville and Werribee campuses.
The Dean represents the Faculty in the wider University and through the governance committee structures plays a significant role in the management of the University and the formation of policy. As a veterinary scientist of international standing in his or her own right, the Dean ensures that the Faculty is at the forefront of veterinary science education more broadly and gives leadership to raising awareness of the importance of veterinary science and research in the Australian community.
The Dean will be expected to have outstanding experience and capabilities in order to provide strong leadership across the full range of the Faculty’s discipline areas. The Dean will be expected to be an outstanding veterinary scientist who will have high visibility and wide recognition in the field, both nationally and internationally. He or she will have a commitment to veterinary science education, research and to the development of appropriate professional, industry and community linkages. It is expected that the Dean will play a prominent part in developing veterinary science and related policy in state, national and international arenas.
