Noopie Arora receives Society of Theriogenology award
Noopie Arora (Noor), PhD student with the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Werribee has won the 2006 Competitive Abstract Award of the Society of Theriogenology / American College of Theriogenologists at the August Conference in Minnesota.
The title of the paper presented was “The influence of stage of simulated oestrous cycle and uropathogenic virulence factors of E. coli in the pathogenesis of canine cystic endometrial hyperplasia/pyometra complex in the bitch.”
Cystic endometrial hyperplasia pyometra is a serious life-threatening condition commonly affecting the reproductive tract of older bitches. Noopie’s study provides insights concerning the pathogenesis of the condition and the prevention and treatment of the disorder.
Preparation for the conference was detailed with regular discussions with her supervisors Dr PJ Wright and Dr Jenny Charles.
Ms Arora said “The achievement of this award was made possible with the assistance provided by my supervisors Dr P.J. Wright, Dr Jenny Charles and Prof Glenn Browning, along with our technical officer and very dear friend, Ms Fiona Armour. The help provided by the dog colony staff is deeply appreciated.”
Ms Arora is in the third year of her PhD Titled Aetiopathogenesis of cystic endometrial hyperplasia/pyometra complex in the bitch. Receiving the award will assist with further research and the prize money will be used for travel to another conference.
The Theriogenologists conference was Ms Arora’s second International conference presentation. She also presented at the 5th International Symposium on Canine and Feline Reproduction, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil during Aug 2-6, 2004.
Prior to returning home Ms Arora will present her PhD work at a few universities in the USA.
