Well known veterinary pathologist receives prestigious ASAVA award
28 November 2007
A senior lecturer from the Faculty of Veterinary Science has won a prestigious national veterinary science award.
Dr Jenny Charles, a member of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Liver Standardisation Group, was awarded the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, for her outstanding scientific contributions to small animal medicine and surgery.
Dr Charles was presented with the award by Dr Mathew Retchford, ASAVA President, at the 32nd WSAVA congress’ glittering gala dinner, hosted by the ASAVA. The event was held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour on the 22 of August 2007.
Dr Charles received the award in recognition of her contributions to small animal medicine as a veterinary pathologist; as a regular contributor to veterinary continuing education programs throughout Australia, and as a member of the WSAVA Liver Standardisation Group.
On receiving the award, Jenny said: “I was deeply honoured to receive the award, but was completely taken by surprise. I have long admired the endeavours of the ASAVA to promote the highest standards of small animal veterinary care throughout the profession in this country. So it is a great honour to have my contributions acknowledged by them.
“It was a particular thrill to receive the award during such a major international conference that amply demonstrated the quality of the Australian veterinary profession to a world audience.”
