Faculty of Veterinary Science

Annual graduate symposium day a huge success

Press release
23 November 2007

Graduate research students from the Faculty of Veterinary Science gathered together on Wednesday 21 November to showcase their graduate research studies at the Third Annual Graduate Symposium Day.

This year twenty graduate students presented a collection of papers and posters on a wide range of animal-related themes and issues. The annual event is a celebration of student research activities in the Faculty, and a popular fixture in the Faculty’s calendar.

The symposium provided an excellent platform for PhD and Masters students to present their projects and work to members of staff as well as fellow students.  Chris Gorman, organiser and PhD student commented:  “This annual event highlights the quality and diversity of research that is being undertaken by students in the department.

“It was a really successful day, which provided the opportunity for students and staff from both the Parkville and Werribee campuses to exchange ideas across various research areas.  I'd like to thank the School of Graduate Studies, and the Faculty for funding this event.”

This year, Promega - a world leader in providing innovative solutions and technical support to the life sciences industry, generously donated a $250 prize for the best Parkville and Werribee speakers. They also provided a lucky draw prize.

Natalie Job from Parkville and Reuben Fliegner from Werribee were the proud receivers of this year’s speaker prizes.  Natalie said:  “I was totally surprised to hear that I had won the speaker award for Parkville, I really didn’t expect it.  I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience, it’s been great to meet fellow colleagues from other areas, and to receive feedback in relation to my research area.”

Indu Panicker won the lucky draw competition and received two tickets to the movies.
