Rural Veterinary Student's Scholarship
The Faculty of Veterinary Science will fund a scholarship to study Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne for a student who is from a rural or regional area within Australia and who can demonstrate an on-going interest in rural practice. The Faculty will provide one scholarship of $5000 per annum to a suitably qualified student entering the first year of the BVSc program in 2009.
Terms and conditions:
The terms of the scholarship are as follows:
- The recipient must be enrolled as an undergraduate student in the first year of the BVSc program at the University of Melbourne in 2009.
- The recipient must be an Australian citizen with good academic records and have a home address in a remote or regional part of Australia for at least three of the past five years. Rural and regional areas are defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in its Standard Geographic Classification as comprising all postcodes other than those of major Australian cities (http://www.backingaustraliasfuture.gov.au/guidelines/documents/cas_lookup.xls).
- Applicants must demonstrate interest in rural practice and an intention to return to regional or rural practice after graduation.
- The scholarship will be awarded to an individual for the duration of his/her enrolment in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science course provided that the student remains in good academic standing. The scholarships will not be paid to a student repeating a year of the course.
- Academic performance will be used as a criterion in selecting the recipient of the scholarship.
- A Selection Committee composed of the Dean (Chair) and Associate Deans for Students will determine the allocation of the scholarships.
Applications
Applicants should provide the following:
- A letter of application outlining the student’s demonstrated interest in rural practice and intention to return to regional or rural practice after graduation This letter should be no longer than 500 words.
- Proof of residence in an Australian rural or regional area for at least three of the past five years (e.g. a utility bill or rates notice in your name or a statutory declaration from someone who is not a relative and can confirm your claim of residency).
- Applications should be submitted to Ms Loretta Gibson, Academic Programs Manager, Faculty of Veterinary Science, the University of Melbourne, Victoria 3010, by 30 January 2009.
