Noble Stewart-Hamilton Scholarship for Rural Students in Veterinary Science
The Faculty of Veterinary Science will fund one scholarship to study Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne for a student who is from a rural or regional area within Australia. The Faculty will provide one scholarship of $5000 per annum to a suitably qualified student entering the first year of the BVSc program in 2010.
Terms and conditions:
The terms of the scholarship are as follows:
- The recipient must be enrolled as an undergraduate student in the first year of the BVSc program at the University of Melbourne in 2010.
- The recipient must have either completed the final two years of secondary schooling in an Australian rural or regional secondary school or have resided in an Australian rural or regional area for three of the four years prior to entry to the University of Melbourne. Rural and regional areas are defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in its Standard Geographic Classification as comprising all postcodes other than those of major Australian cities: http://www.backingaustraliasfuture.gov.au/guidelines/documents/cas_lookup.xls
- The scholarship will be awarded to an individual for the duration of his/her enrolment in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science course provided that the student remains in good academic standing. The scholarships will not be paid to a student repeating a year of the course.
- Academic performance will be used as a criterion in selecting the recipient of the scholarship.
- The letter of application outlining how the scholarship would benefit the student in studying Veterinary Science will inform the Selection Committee so that two equally qualified candidates (academically qualified) can be differentiated.
- A Selection Committee composed of the Dean (Chair) and Associate Deans for Students will determine the allocation of the scholarships.
Applications
Applicants should provide the following:
- A letter of application outlining how the scholarship would benefit the student in studying Veterinary Science. This letter should be no longer than 500 words.
- Proof of matriculation from an Australian rural or regional secondary school or proof of residence in an Australian rural or regional area prior to entry to the University of Melbourne (e.g. a utility bill or rates notice in your name or a statutory declaration from someone who is not a relative and can confirm your claim of residency).
- Applications should be submitted to Mrs Helen Smithwick, Academic Programs Manager, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Melbourne, Victoria 3010, by Friday 29 January 2010.
