Faculty appoints Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology

Dr Aaron Jex has accepted a new role as the Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology.
Dr Aaron Jex grew up in Nanaimo, Canada, and graduated from Vancouver Island University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science (First Class with Distinction).
Aaron moved to Australia in 2002 to undertake his PhD at the University of Queensland which he completed in 2006.
Prior to his new role, Aaron was employed as a Senior Research Officer and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Fellow with the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Veterinary Science.
His research with the Faculty, together with his PhD candidature, enabled Aaron to produce 55 publications in high-quality international scientific journals and major textbooks. He also successfully pursued, together with co-investigators, up to $5 million in funding through highly competitive national and international funding bodies, fellowship programs and industry partnerships.
Recent examples of his success include being awarded the 2010 NHMRC's Achievement Award for Career Development, as well as the 2009 Peter Nansen Young Scientist Award from the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology.
Prior to joining the Faculty, Aaron received a number of scholarships including the:
- Australian International Post-Graduate Research Scholarship
- University of Queensland International Post-Graduate Research Scholarship
- Queen Elizabeth II Centennial Scholarship
Aaron brings to the position a solid base of experience in communication and public speaking having delivered lectures, symposia proceedings and seminars at international and national conferences as well as to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of California (UC) Davis, California Institute of Technology, UC San Francisco, Vancouver Island University, RMIT Victoria, The University of Queensland and the University of Melbourne in Parasitology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
