Selection

Bachelor of Veterinary Science

The Bachelor of Veterinary Science program consists of two distinct parts: the pre-veterinary year (one year of science or equivalent) and then four years of studies in Veterinary Science.

For more information on the course, see course structure or current entry requirements.

Pre-veterinary year stream

Australian students

The Veterinary Science course has a quota on the number of students that be admitted in any year. The number of students selected may vary each year.

Selection is based on a combination of factors, including performance at high school. Applicants will have completed an Australian Year 12 program and have received an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER), a UAI (New South Wales students), or a TER (all other states except Queensland).

The best-qualified applicants are chosen first and selection continues until the course quota is full. Approximately ten (10) school-leavers are selected to enter the pre-veterinary year stream each year.

A Selection Committee will allocate applicants to one of three groups:

1. Clearly In Rank
This group contains those applicants judged clearly to be accepted, against the current ENTER/UAI/TER score
2. Clearly to be rejected
This group contains those applicants who did not meet the entry requirements or academic standards for selection.
3. Middle group
This group contains those remaining applicants who will be ranked on the middle-band criteria approved for the course as stated in the current VTCA Guide. For further information about these criteria, contact the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Center (VTAC).

See more information regarding the University's Principles of Selection. Also see the Faculty's current entry requirements for further details.

International students

The Veterinary Science course has a quota on the number of students that be admitted in any year. The number of students selected may vary each year.

Selection is based on a combination of factors, including performance at high school, and in the case of some international students, any other previous study.

Those international applicants who are currently studying for, or have completed, an Australian Year 12 program will have received an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER), a UAI (New South Wales students), or a TER (all other states except Queensland).

The remaining applicants will have received an equivalent international score or level(s) of academic merit, which will be considered. Contact the International Centre for a list of the current guaranteed and minimum academic entry standards, as well as indicative entry requirements.

The best-qualified applicants are chosen first and selection continues until the course quota is full.

A Selection Committee will allocate applicants to one of three groups:

1. Clearly In Rank
This group contains those applicants judged clearly to be accepted, against the current ENTER/UAI/TER or equivalent score
2. Clearly to be rejected
This group contains those applicants who did not meet the entry requirements or academic standards for selection

Bachelor of Veterinary Science Years 1-4

Australian students

Selection will be based primarily upon academic merit and performance in university studies already completed. This is assessed particularly in respect to performance in the prerequisite subjects, but the whole academic record is also considered. See the current entry requirements for further details on prerequisite study.

The Selection Committee may also take into account "demonstrated professional and scientific interest".

No preference is given to graduates over non-graduates.

International students

Entry into this course is principally based upon academic merit. This is assessed particularly with reference to performance in the prerequisite subjects, but the whole academic record is also considered. See the current entry requirements for further details on prerequisite study.

Relevant work experience conducted in the field is also expected.
