International Entry Requirements
Even though there are many steps to the application process it does not have to be difficult. You will need to find out How to apply, be aware of Important dates and meet the University’s Entry Standards and prerequisites and English language requirements. You will also need to apply for a student visa.
Our overseas representatives can also assist you with the application process if you are experiencing difficulties.
Once you have been accepted you will need to Accept your offer. Please note that we do not offer deferrals for this course.
Veterinary Science and the Melbourne Model
The Faculty of Veterinary Science will be joining the Melbourne Model as from 2011, with our very first graduate professional entry program commencing in 2012. Entry to the graduate professional entry program will require prior completion of an undergraduate degree - the Bachelor of Science offered at the University will provide one of the pathways to the new graduate professional entry Veterinary Science degree.
The last intake for the current pre-veterinary stream will be in 2009, with the very last intake for the current four-year Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree being in 2010. Please note that we are still in the process of finalising the structure of the new graduate professional degree, and more detailed information will be available shortly.
Points of entry
There are two points of entry into the Bachelor of Veterinary Science course: via the pre-veterinary stream which is a year of basic science or enter following one year of a science course into the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Years 1-4).
Please note that until 2011 we still continue to require the prerequisite subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (alternative levels available). View BVSc course information brochures for students from North America, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Note that entry requirements are a minimum standard - further selection criteria also apply.
First point of entry: for high-school leavers Pre-Veterinary Stream
Pre-requisite subjects for entry:
VCE or Australian Year 12 equivalent. |
Units 3 and 4. A study score of at least 35 in each of English, Chemistry, and one of Mathematics or Physics. |
International Baccalaureate. |
English, Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematical Methods (standard level) or Mathematics (higher level). |
GCE A–levels, STPM, Sri Lankan A–levels. |
Chemistry and one of Physics or Mathematics. |
CBSE India, ISC India and HSC India. |
English, Chemistry and one of Mathematics and Physics. |
Trinity Foundation Program |
EAP (a score of at least 80%), English, Chemistry, History of Ideas (Ord), and one of Physics, Mathematics 1A or 1B. |

Second point of entry: following one or more years of a science course
Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Years 1 – 4)
To be eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Veterinary Science, you must have completed and passed at least one year as a full-time student in an approved course at tertiary level. You must also have obtained a pass grade or higher in the prerequisite subjects, at a standard which is deemed equivalent by the Faculty of Veterinary Science to the standard pertaining in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne.

Chemistry 101 and 102
Physics 111 and 112; or one of Physics 131 or 171, plus one of Physics 132 or 172 .

Deferrals:
Please note that successful applicants may not apply to defer commencement of the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree, this applies to both the pre-veterinary route and direct entry. Students can reapply, and the application fee will be waived for international students.
